Imperial Diamond Trellis Egg. Presented in 1892 by Czar Alexander III to his wife, the Empress Maria Fedorovna. This reproduction egg is made of hand carved and polished rose quartz with a softly swirling diamond encrusted trellis which originates from a 1.1 carat diamond at the egg's apex. There are a total of 1,145 1mm single cut diamonds in the trellis. The egg is supported by a 24k gold plated sterling silver base formed with three cherubs, thought to represent the three young sons of the Czar and Empress: Grand Duke Nicholas (later Czar Nicholas II), George and Michael.
